About

Built on Operational Experience

Nexus Firearms of America was built around a simple principle: firearms, suppressors, and related equipment should be selected based on mission, environment, and the person behind the weapon, not simply what happens to be available behind the counter.

John Codd with his wife and children

I founded Nexus after twenty-four years in the Coast Guard, most of it in operational roles: maritime security, law enforcement, counterterrorism, and contingency response. It started with Port Security Unit 313, then took me to Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, working alongside Navy SEAL teams and Marine Corps Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Teams to help secure maritime infrastructure.

That background changed how I think about firearms and gear for good. None of it is a spec sheet. A firearm or a suppressor is part of a system, and that system has to make sense for the person using it and where they will use it. Weight, length, reliability, mounting, sound signature: they all matter, and the right answer is different for every person.

That is the mindset behind Nexus. We run as a concierge FFL and SOT, not a conventional gun counter. The goal is not moving inventory. It is understanding what you are actually trying to accomplish and helping you build the right setup for it, even when that means telling you not to buy anything yet.

That matters most with suppressors and other NFA items, where there is rarely one best answer. The right host depends on caliber, barrel length, mounting, intended use, and what you value most: quiet, weight, durability, or reliability across platforms. We walk through those tradeoffs with you before you spend a dollar.

My career eventually moved from tactical work into command, policy, and senior advisory roles, but the operational habit never left. I still run every decision through the same questions I used in the field.

What is the mission? What does the person actually need? What works reliably? What are the tradeoffs? And what adds real capability instead of unnecessary complexity?

Manufacturer relationships

Direct relationships, not a distributor catalog

Over the years I have built direct relationships with manufacturers I personally trust and use, including Irregular Design Group, Black Rain Ordnance, V Seven Weapons Systems, Odin Works, Half Face Blades, and Fortis Manufacturing. Those relationships mean straight access to the people who design and build the gear, not just a name on a shelf.

How we operate

A few things we hold to

By the book, every time

Compliance is not a hassle to work around. It is the job. Forms, checks, and records are done right or not at all.

The right answer, even when it costs us a sale

If you do not need to buy anything yet, we will tell you. If the cheaper option is right for you, we will tell you that too.

You leave understanding your setup

Fitment and a walkthrough are part of the purchase, not an upsell. You should be able to explain your own gear.

Service pricing that respects service

Transfer fees are half off for active military and first responders. It is a small thing, and it matters to us.

The name

Live Freely, Without Fear

The motto is not about bravado. It is about the quiet confidence that comes from being prepared and knowing your equipment. Fear usually comes from the unknown. We try to remove the unknown.
